SHARE THE VISION
Many have a vision for the creation of health promoting places and spaces. To deliver on this vision positive interventions are required if we are to optimise the rural and urban realm to promote health and wellbeing, to reduce avoidable ill-health, to reduce the impacts of Climate Change and to deliver Biodiversity enhancement.
Parks are important “Determinants of Health”. These are physical attributes in the environment which have a direct bearing on health and wellbeing. The ‘Parks for Health Toolkit’ allows these elements to be assessed, and practical opportunities for improvements and new interventions to be identified. Parks and Green Spaces can also be used to promote physical activity, to reduce mental ill-health, and to strengthen social cohesion. The Toolkit forms the basis for the assessment of existing Parks, and the creation of Park Health Audits and Strategies; be they for single Parks or Multiple Parks across a Borough, Ward or Community. These link Parks to Public Health and Social Prescribing, placing them within the context of Primary Prevention.
