SHARE THE VISION

Many share a vision for the creation of health promoting places and spaces. Improvements in Primary Prevention are known to be the sustainable route to the creation of a healthy community.

However to deliver on this aspiration positive interventions are required if we are to use the rural and urban realm to promote health and wellbeing, to reduce avoidable ill-health, to reduce the impacts of Climate Change and to deliver Biodiversity enhancement.

Parks are important “Determinants of Health”. These are physical attributes in the environment which have a direct bearing on health and wellbeing. The ‘Parks for Health Toolkit’ allows these elements to be assessed, and practical opportunities for improvements and new interventions to be identified. Parks and Green Spaces can also be used to promote physical activity, to reduce mental ill-health, and to strengthen social cohesion. The Toolkit forms the basis for the assessment of existing Parks, and the creation of Park Health Strategies; be they single Parks or Multiple Parks across a Borough, Ward or Community. These link Parks to Public Health and Social Prescribing, and can also contribute to Workplace Wellbeing.
